Who is Level B for?​

Level B is designed for children who have begun learning to read and are ready to build on their foundational skills. It is typically appropriate for ages 5–9, depending on your child's experience and needs.​

​

Your child may be ready for Level B if they can:

• Identify and write all of the capital and lowercase letters of the alphabet

• Know the most common sounds for each of the letters

• Begin reading simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words.

 

Level B begins with a review of foundational skills, but children who need more time practicing these skills may benefit from starting with Level A.

Remember: Age is only a guide. Choose the level that meets your child where they are.

What will your child learn in Level B?

Level B builds on foundational reading skills while connecting reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension.

• Phonological Awareness (awareness of sounds in language)

  • Blend sounds orally to form words

  • Segment and manipulate phonemes (sounds) in words

  • Blend individual phonemes (sounds), blends, digraphs, trigraphs, and diphthongs to read new words

  • Build reading fluency through practice with more challenging texts​

  • Practice writing letters and words neatly on lines and spaces

  • Write complete sentences with proper punctuation

  • Discuss and retell stories through oral narrations

More than Learning to Read

Faith is gently woven throughout the lessons to help children see reading as more than just a skill—it’s a way to connect with God, family, and meaningful life experiences. Throughout the course, children’s Bible songs are included to cultivate a heart for worship, helping children memorize and write Scripture as they connect joyfully with God’s Word. 

 

Scriptural connections are also provided in the 8 Mini Storybooks, helping children apply what they learn. In Book 3, the Gospel is presented through four Biblical retellings, where children practice new sight words, sequencing, and oral narration while hearing God’s truth in age-appropriate ways.

What does a Level B lesson look like?

Each Level B lesson is thoughtfully designed to give your child instruction, practice, and meaningful opportunities to apply what they’re learning.

Every lesson includes:

• A daily oral drill to review and strengthen foundational skills

• Review and practice to reinforce previous learning

• A mini lesson introducing or developing a new skill

• Hands-on learning opportunities to engage your child in the lesson

• A practice page to reinforce the day’s learning

• Handwriting practice to strengthen letter formation and writing skills

 

Every fifth lesson brings additional hands-on practice, including folder activities, cutouts, mini storybooks, and other engaging activities that give your child another way to practice and connect with what they’ve learned.

The result is a thoughtful rhythm of instruction, repetition, practice, and hands-on learning—helping your child grow in skill and confidence while keeping learning engaging and enjoyable.

You’ll get to choose the books that best fit your child! Some readers are already provided in the curriculum, but you’ll also want to select additional favorites for read-aloud time, guided reading, and independent practice. An Early Reader Booklist is provided for additional options. ***Please note: Books are not included with the curriculum.

​What age is Level B for?

Does my child need to complete Level A first?

 

Not necessarily. Children who already have the foundational skills covered in Level A may be ready to begin Level B. A review is included at the beginning.

 

Is Level B appropriate for a child with dyslexia or other learning challenges?

 

Level B was intentionally developed with dyslexic learners and children with other learning differences in mind. It incorporates systematic instruction, multisensory learning, intentional repetition, and plenty of opportunities for practice and review.

 

While every child is unique, these features can provide a thoughtful, supportive approach for children who need more repetition, more practice, or a different pathway into reading.

 

How much preparation is required?

Materials need to be printed and prepared before use. Once prepared, lessons are designed to be straightforward to implement, with only a small amount of daily setup.

 

Are the books included?

The eight mini-books and early reader booklist are included. Additional books for read-alouds and reading practice are not included.

​

How is faith incorporated?

 

Faith is woven throughout the curriculum through Bible songs, Scripture, and biblical stories.
