A Reading Curriculum that Connects It All
Learning to read and write doesn't have to mean piecing together a different curriculum for every skill.
Nurturing Connections intentionally integrates the skills of literacy so that each one supports the others.
Reading supports writing. Writing supports reading. Handwriting, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and composition are woven into the learning rather than treated as disconnected subjects.

Children don't just learn a skill and move on. They have opportunities to practice it, use it, talk about it, and connect it to what they're learning next.

And because the learning is integrated, you don't need four different curriculums to teach your child to read and write.

Build Don't Rush
Children don't always struggle because they can't learn.
​
Sometimes they simply haven't had enough time, practice, or meaningful opportunities to make the learning stick.
​
That's something I learned firsthand when my own children struggled with reading. Concepts were introduced, words were practiced, a story was read—and then the curriculum moved on.
My children needed something different.
​
They needed strategic, engaging repetition. They needed time to practice a new skill in different ways. They needed to understand the why. And they needed opportunities to move, touch, see, say, build, and experience what they were learning.
​
So that's what I built into Nurturing Connections in Reading.
​
New skills build upon previous learning. Repetition is intentional and engaging. Hands-on experiences help children process and retain what they're learning.
Integration between literacy skills solidifies understanding.

It's intentional and strategic, and it makes a difference.

Learning to read and write involves many skills—and they don't develop in isolation.

Nurturing Connections in Reading intentionally brings these skills together so children can see how what they're learning connects, practice skills in meaningful ways, and build a strong foundation for what comes next.

Reading. Comprehension. Writing. Handwriting. Spelling. Punctuation. Grammar. Composition.
They work together. So we teach them together.
Learning that Connects
Learning doesn't happen in isolation—and neither does literacy.

Nurturing Connections creates opportunities to connect literacy with Scripture, Bible songs, hymns, art, nature, movement, conversation, and hands-on experiences.
​​
These aren't simply extras added to a reading lesson. They're meaningful opportunities for children to make connections, engage with what they're learning, and enjoy the process.
​​
And for families using multiple levels, learning can connect across ages, too. Opportunities for oral presentations are woven throughout the lessons, giving siblings an opportunity to listen, share ideas, and learn from one another.
Children also begin developing independence through thoughtful supports such as Anchor Charts, Reference Pages, and tools they can return to as they learn.

Because independence doesn't mean learning alone.
There is room to read, talk, wonder, ask questions, laugh, and learn together.

I didn't create Nurturing Connections because I wanted to add another reading curriculum to the homeschool market.
​
I created it because I saw a need.​
As a former middle school teacher, literacy specialist, educational consultant, and curriculum writer, I spent years studying how children learn and helping develop effective literacy instruction.
​
Then I became a homeschool mom—and experienced the challenges of teaching our own children to read, including watching two of my children struggle with dyslexia.
​
I knew what strong literacy instruction should include. I also knew that some children need more than a curriculum that simply moves them from one lesson to the next.
​
For years, I pieced together different resources, but the more I added, the more overwhelming it became. I wanted a way to teach that was both efficient and effective—without sacrificing meaningful learning.​
So I built Nurturing Connections to be thorough, systematic, intentional, and connected—while leaving room for relationship, curiosity, joy, and the child in front of you.
And I believe that's where learning becomes something more than a checklist.
It becomes part of the memories you make together.
