Plan with Me: A Week of Homeschool Kindergarten
This week I decided to do something a bit differently. I went ahead and hooked up my camera during my lesson planning and talked through the whole process. This was always something I found helpful when I watched other veteran homeschoolers do it, and I thought I'd give it a try as well.
I use my PK/Kindergarten Bucket Planner to organize all of my resources and curriculum choices and have an entire Masterclass video series dedicated to it all. You can view it for free in Member Freebies. This planning process takes a bit of time up front, but once I put it in place, it has made things so much easier to put together. I also love that I can continue to organize new resources that I find along the way.
In this video, I am also using the Weekly Planning Sheet from the planner. You can also download this for free if interested. The planning sheet contains each of the following buckets: Discipleship, Reading/Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science, Creative Expression, Health & PE, and Life Skills. These buckets align with my planner and make it easy to write meaningful lessons that allow for plenty of engagement and activity for my little one.
This week we are studying "Elephants" with My Father's World Curriculum. Although we use the curriculum as a tool for inspiration, we don't follow it exactly. We pick and choose what works for us, and then add anything else we want to do.
Watch as I go through each of the buckets to create our weekly plan.
Once we have our weekly plan, we dip in throughout the week for about an hour a day. You can see another sample week and a sample agenda here. We make sure to cover Bible, math, and reading each school day. Sometimes we get through everything else on our list and sometimes, we don't. Sometimes, we swap out activities if new opportunities arise.
And that's okay.
I've learned to let go and enjoy the journey instead of feeling the need to check off a certain number of boxes each day. If something is worthwhile, we simply bump it into the next week. Otherwise, we just scratch it off and continue moving forward.
The learning is simple and oh-so-sweet.
