My Father's World vs. Heart of Dakota

Updated: Sep 5

Over the years, I have shared how My Father’s World has been an important part of our homeschool. From All Aboard the Animal Train to Creation to the Greeks, we have enjoyed the activities, living books, and all of the wonderful experiences it has all provided.

What I haven’t had a chance to share, however, is that we have also used Heart of Dakota from time to time. We have used Little Hearts for His Glory for 1st-2nd grade and Preparing Hearts for His Glory for 4th grade.

Heart of Dakota is also centered on hands-on activities, living books, and covers similar subjects such as Bible, history, science, art, music, and storytime.

Both curricula share a Biblical worldview, focus on discipleship, and provide opportunities for note booking and nature exploration.

So what exactly sets them apart?

Watch the video below for the similarities, differences, and what you need to consider to determine which is the better fit for you and your family.

Have you used My Father’s World or Heart of Dakota before? What tips would you share?

Which curriculum have you preferred in the long run? I am so undecided. I was concerned because of the amount of prep time my fathers world seemed to take. Any thoughts on this?

Both are really great, but we personally loved My Father's World and can speak more to it because we did use it for many years. If you enjoy more of the hands-on experiences and read-alouds, then MFW could be a better option. If you want your child to take on more of those projects independently, then HOD leans more in that direction. Hope you find the BEST fit for you and your family!
